Mountain Biking around Triglav National Park
For lovers of alpine air and sweeping vistas, this scenic mountain bike tour highlights Slovenia’s stunning landscapes. Starting and ending in Bohinj Valley, it follows a circular route through Triglav National Park and the Julian Alps, incorporating sections of the renowned Juliana Trail. Most roads are paved, with many detours on forest and single tracks for added adventure. Suitable for MTB bikers with a good level of fitness and skill, it offers unforgettable views of soaring peaks, lakes, and lush valleys.

Itinerary
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN BOHINJSKA BISTRICA
Bohinjska Bistrica is a charming alpine town in Slovenia, nestled at the edge of Triglav National Park near Lake Bohinj. Known for its thermal spa, traditional architecture, and access to outdoor activities like hiking and outdoor sports, it serves as a gateway to the stunning Julian Alps. Day 2: BOHINJSKA BISTRICA - PODBRDO (↔ 27 km, ↑ 880 m, ↓ 860 m)
Your first day of true mountain biking, from Bohinjska Bistrica to Podbrdo, takes you on a scenic adventure through the heart of the Julian Alps. The route winds along forested trails and gravel paths, crossing a 1,200 asl meter pass. Along the way, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of alpine valleys and the Sava Bohinjka River. You’ll spend the night in a small, tranquil village untouched by mass tourism. (Accommodation in 3* Appartments, example: Utrinek Podbrdo)
Day 3: PODBRDO–TOLMIN (38 km, ↑ 1,090 m, ↓ 1.400 m)
A true mountain biking adventure awaits! Ride along former Italian military roads, known as mulatiera, deep into the heart of the Julian Alps, following the narrow, canyon-like valley of the wild Bača River. Continue your journey alongside the emerald-green Soča River as it cascades from the mountains into the western valley. In summer, weather permitting, enjoy a refreshing swim at the confluence of the Bača and Idrijca Rivers. When in Tolmin, you can also visit Tolmin Gorges. Day 4: TOLMIN–BOVEC (47 km, ↑ 1,640 m, ↓ 1.390 m)
Best day of the whole tour! Continue biking high above and along the Soča River, passing through historic areas that saw fierce WWI battles, immortalized in Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms. Don’t miss the breathtaking Boka Waterfall, standing 106 m high and 30 m wide. (Accommodation in 4* hotel, example: Hotel Mangart)
Day 5: BOVEC–KRANJSKA GORA (50 km, ↑ 1,500 m, ↓ 1.140 m)
Take on a section of the Juliana Trail as you cycle through the serene Upper Soča Valley in Trenta, home to the famously turquoise Soča River. Challenge yourself with the legendary ascent of the Vršič Pass, navigating 50 hairpin bends to reach a height of 1,611 m (with a 3,600 ft elevation gain). End the day with a thrilling descent to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia’s most renowned Alpine resort. (Accommodation in 4* hotel, example: Hotel Kompas)
Day 6: KRANJSKA GORA–POKLJUKA / GORELJEK (48 km, ↑ 1.240 m, ↓ 710 m)
Enjoy a more relaxed mountain biking route along the Radovna River as it winds through a wilderness valley between two plateaus. Enjoy lunch in an ancient farmhouse, embrace on of the oldest Slovene trees and climb up Pokljuka highplateu to your destination - Goreljek Sports Center. Day 7: POKLJUKA / GORELJEK - BOHINJSKA BISTRICA (↔ 35 km, ↑ 300 m, ↓ 1.130 m)
A fantastic final ride awaits – a thrilling descent back to the Bohinj Valley, passing through mountain pastures with a sweeping panorama of the Julian Alps you’ve just circled. (Accommodation in 4* hotel, example: Bohinj Eco hotel)

Price per person based on two people sharing:

Supplements:
• Single travelers Season A 380 EUR, Season B 395 EUR. Applies when a person travels alone and includes single room supplement.
• Single room Season A 295 EUR, Season B: 315 EUR. Applies when a person is traveling together with other persons in a party.
• Standard MTB bike rental 150 EUR. Bikes have 24 gears. Included are: one pannier per bike, helmet. One repair set per pair of bikes – includes: one long lock, one spare inner tube, one set of Allen keys, tire levers and a basic puncture patch set. Every additional rental day 25 EUR per bike. Bike rental period starts 9:00 of day two of the tour and ends at 18:00 of day seven.

• Printed information package in English or German, including route notes and detailed maps, delivered upon arrival - 30 EUR.

• Third adult person in a double room on auxiliary bed: 10% discount. This discount only applies to third person only (not all persons in the party).

This tour is technically challenging, featuring sections where you may need to push or carry your bike, especially on narrow single-track paths. Some areas require strong biking skills due to steep climbs and tricky descents, making it best suited for experienced riders.

Tour character: Sportive - For riders who go on longer day tours at home, cycle to the neighboring town and have a solid physical condition. The terrain can be hilly and even if there are several ascents between the stage towns. Average daily elevation gains exceed 1.000 meters.

Getting there...
By plane: closest airport is Ljubljana (LJU). Several airlines serve it. From the airport you can travel to Bohinjska Bistrica by bus (change once, takes about two hrs) or book our transfer from Ljubljana Airport to Bled (faster - 20 min).
By train: Bohinjska Bistrica has ints own railway station but few local trains stop here. It is on the Jesenice - Nova Gorica sideline, only a few trains a day, 500 meters away from town center.
By car: take exit Lesce from A1 motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice, Karavanke.
