A picturesque countryside tour with emphasis on wine, good food and relaxation in hot thermal springs. Suitable for cyclists of basic fitness, modest daily distances.

 

Daily programme: 

 

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN MARIBOR.
& Second largest Slovene town with a lovely old centre. Summer festival on the banks of Drava River. Overnight in 3* town hotel, recently renovated. Free parking for the duration of your cycling trip.

 

Day 2: MARIBOR – PTUJ (32 km).
b Cycling tour goes across Ptuj fields, along the bank of Drava river. Flat only.
& Town of Ptuj - the oldest Slovenian town with Roman ruins, temples and medieval castle, with wonderful collection of old musical instruments and history of Turkish raids. 3* hotel.
C We liked: Monday morning market. Ptuj wine cellar has its own shop and tasting room. We recommend Traminec white wine.

 

Day 3: PTUJ – JERUZALEM (42 km).
b Biking tour goes first across plains, flat. Last 8 km are hilly with one short sharp climb of 100 m / 330 ft. Nice 2* country inn, set in the vineyards – you’ll love the room with a view. Price includes wine tasting in the house cellar!
C We liked: Tuscany like countryside, tiny villages and Nedela baroque castles. Wine cellar Ormož – known for white wines. Ormož is on the border with Croatia, should you wish, you could visit the neighbouring country by simply crossing Drava Bridge.

 

Day 4: JERUZALEM – MORAVSKE TOPLICE (44 km).

b Some hilly sections in the morning, later flat. 3* hotel – part of thermal spas in Moravske Toplice.
& Traditional Slovene vineyard area. Beautiful countryside and scenery. Jerusalem church.
C We liked: little wine cellars (better not combined with cycling too often). Best wine? White Jeruzalemčan. Visit the floating mill of Veržej, pottery workshop in Filovci and the modern church in Bogojina.

 

Day 5: MORAVSKE TOPLICE (Rest day or roundtrip of 65 km).
b Relax at the hotel swimming pool or take an easy cycling trip towards Hungarian border and visit Bukovnica Lake – it has bioenergetical effects!

C Enjoy a cup of coffee with tasty pastry in Lendava or cycle a couple of kilometres through Hungary and visit typical market in the border town of Lenti.

 

Day 6: MORAVSKE TOPLICE – LENART (41 km).
b First part flat, then gently rolling countryside. 2* country inn. Price includes free wine with dinner!
C We liked: Murska Sobota castle, crossing river Mura by an old fashioned float. Nice picnic place on the side of a lake.

 

Day 7: LENART – MARIBOR (38 km).
b Hilly among vineyards, than flat. (3* hotel).
C We liked: small town of Lenart, northern Slovene rural villages and farms.

 

Day 8: END OF TRIP.

 

Price per person:

individual tour: 530 EUR (Currency converter here)

group tour: 650 EUR

 

Price includes:

Accommodation in the above mentioned hotels in two bedded room with WC and shower, on a basis of bed & breakfast.

Luggage transport between the hotels (one piece per person).

Information package including detailed route description with corresponding maps (one per booking party, maps have to be returned to Helia after trip).

Wine tasting in Jeruzalem and free wine with dinner in Lenart.

Free entry in hotel swimming pools in Moravske Toplice.

A welcome drink and a visit of Helia representative on the arrival evening.

Extra with group tour: a licensed English speaking guide who cycles with a group.

 

Supplements:

Half board 90 EUR.

Single supplement 110 EUR Bike rental 70 EUR per week (touring bikes are equipped with lock, pannier and basic repair set. Price includes delivery and pick up). Every additional day: 10 EUR per bike. Bike rental period starts on day 2 of the tour and ends on the evening of their return to Maribor (day 7).

Helmet rental 12 EUR.

Discounts:

Children up to 12 years when sharing room with parents -30%.

Third adult person on an extra bed (sharing) in a double room: -10% on the basic price.

 

Not included:

Entrance fees.

There is free guarded parking lot in Maribor hotel.

Bike insurance: bikes are insured against minor breaks and normal wear (up to a damage of 10 EUR). They are not insured against theft or frame break. Insurance is available against these events at the rate of 1 EUR per bike per day.  

Transfers to and from Graz (Ryan air) and Ljubljana (Easy jet) airport are available here.
