IntroductionCollection of easy tours suitable for all cyclists. Central starting point allows daily decision on which tour is to be done.Daily programmeDay 1: arrival in Lake Bled. You will arrive in Bled, a world famous town on the shore of a beautiful glacial lake. One of our Helia representatives will meet you and take you for a welcome drink, deliver your information pack and ensure you have everything you need for your trip. In the evening try the local speciality – the cream cake “Kremšnita” – in one of the great little tea shops beside the lake, or sample the night life in many of the bars and restaurants, or enjoy the view from the terrace at Park Hotel. TOUR A: Bled - sightseeing (15 km). A leisurely day around Lake Bled as an introduction.Bled is a world famous town on the shore of a beautiful glacial lake. Defined by its unique island church sitting proudly in the middle of this immense body of water, surrounded by towering alpine mountains, and the castle perched high on a cliff standing guard over the town, Bled is one of Slovenia’s most popular tourist attractions. You can either hire a boat and row yourself over to the church, or if you are feeling more leisurely take one of the many gondolas and let someone else do the work. Marvel at the ornate golden altar and ring the church bell and make a wish, it might come true. Then take a ride around the lake and up to the castle for a spectacular view of this glacial valley. TOUR B: Bled – Bodešce – Kropa - Bled (33 km). Easy day with a few relatively undemanding hills. As the sunlight floods over Lake Bled you will be following the Sava Bohinjka river and cycling 750m up to the Jelovica high plateau for a spectacular view of the entrance to the Triglav National Park. Your route will take you through the fascinating little village of Kropa where you will find the iron forging museum dedicated to the history of the town’s blacksmith trade. You can even learn how to make your own nail, and ether add it to the current collection of over 100 types, or take it home with you. From here you will continue on to the village of Brezje. The main attraction here is the pilgrimage church. The current structure was built in 1900 to cope with the massive influx of pilgrims after the rumours of miracles occurring in the town attracted pilgrims from all over Europe in the 1800s. TOUR C: Bled – Begunje – Radovljica - Bled(43 km). Easy route, completely flat. This route will take you out to the historic village of Begunje. It was in this small settlement where one of Slovenia’s darkest moments took place. Visit the Museum of Hostages and learn how thousands of men, women and children were beaten and executed during the German occupation in WW2. On a lighter note, Begunje is also the hometown of the famous Slavko Avsenik / Oberkrainer band. 2kms down the road lay the ruins of Kamen Castle. You will then head to Radovljica with its beautifully preserved old town and an interesting beekeeping museum. You can have your lunch in the old fashioned restaurant next to the castle, before heading back to catch the sunset over Lake Bled. TOUR D: Bled-Gorje (19 km). One gradual climb of 150 m.This day trip will take you to the stunning 1.6km Vintgar Gorge, carved 150m deep into the mountains by the Radovna River. The gorge was discovered by chance by the town mayor in 1891, who then set to work building walkways to open the gorge up to the public. We recommend you try the trout dinner at the entrance to the gorge. You then continue on to the equally breathtaking Pokljuka Gorge. However, the similarity ends there as here you will be a world away from the tourist crowds. The Pokljuka Gorge was carved out 10,000 years ago at the eastern edge of the plateau. Here you can leave the bike for a while and take a stroll in the solitude of this ancient forest and fossilized ravine left behind by the retreating glacier. TOUR E: Bled-Bohinj (44 km). Car transfer to the top of Pokljuka high plateau, then cycling 20 km downhill to the Bohinj Valley. First you will be driven up to the high plateau at Pokljuka where you can glide down into the neighbouring Bohinj Valley, the jewel in the heart of the Triglav National Park. You will cycle through the many small alpine villages scattered across the valley and pass traditional farmhouses and the unique Slovene hayracks until reaching the small settlement of Ribčev Laz (Fisherman’s Pass) lying next to the stunning Lake Bohinj. Wedged into the corner of this dead end valley, Bohinj is the largest and deepest lake in the national park, and is surrounded by shimmering mountain peaks and densely forested hills. The view across this lake from the bridge at Ribčev Laz is unrivalled. Cycle around the lake to Savica Waterfall, source of the Sava Bohinjka River, and then take the cable car up to Vogel Mountain for a spectacular view into the Bohinj Valley and of Mount Triglav, the highest peak in the Julian Alps. TOUR F: Bled -Krma - Valley (36 km). An easy day with a gentle climb through the valley. From Bled you will first cycle through the Radovna Valley, an untouched wilderness between the Pokljuka and Mežakla plateaus, before entering the Krma Valley. This valley leads through a peaceful forest littered with WW2 monuments and traditional farmhouses, one of which has been adapted into a museum that was even visited by Prince Charles. You can have lunch in the mountain hut at the foot of Triglav, the mightiest mountain in the Julian Alps, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery deep in the heart of this beautiful alpine landscape.
